Havering College of Further and Higher Education is an exciting place to study for your vocationally focused Higher Education programme. Large enough to have a thriving and active academic community that will support you in your studies and endeavours; and small enough for you to retain your individuality and personality as you study for the HE qualification that will help you to ‘get ahead’ in pursuit of the career of your choice. This programme is for those who wish to develop he appropriate knowledge and understanding required for working the Early Years sector. During the course of this three year degree, you will study and develop; • The professional and practical skills and competencies that are required to work in a variety of Early Years contexts; • The leadership and management skills needed to promote good practice and to model appropriate values and beliefs in the workplace; • Self-awareness, reflection and evaluation skills necessary to be able to recognise and evaluate the impact of your practice on other people in your work setting; • An appropriate understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework for Early Years and to prepare to work within this framework; • Professional accountability and a commitment to lifelong learning; • Transferable skills at graduate level. This degree has been approved as being ‘full and relevant’ by the National College for Teaching Learning and meets the Early Years Educator criteria at levels 4 and 5.

Course details


Modules will include: Child Development, Safeguarding, Atypical Development, Curriculum Policy, Children’s Rights, Leadership and Management, Academic and Research Skills.

Assessment method

Assessment will largely be assignment based but can include presentations, academic posters, reports and research projects. There will be an assessment in practice at levels 4 (year 1) and 5 (year 2) as part of the Early Years Educator criteria.
