OVERVIEW Whether you dream of managing major sports events, festivals and exhibitions or working in wedding planning and incentive travel, the events sector is full of exciting opportunities. Managing events is big business too, with the industry estimated to be worth over £42 billion in the UK alone. Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), our Events Management degree will help you develop the skills to become an innovative leader who can build exceptional, unforgettable event experiences. From studying events planning, marketing and design to financial management and risk and crisis management, you will gain in-depth knowledge to build a comprehensive platform for your future career. One of the highlights of our course is a 12-month paid work placement that will give you a distinctive advantage in the events job market, with our past students having worked in Brussels, Prague and Hong Kong. You will also take part in a wide variety of residential trips and have the chance to prove your practical skills by planning and managing your own ‘live’ event using Cvent, the world’s number one specialist event management software. FACILITIES Our Digital Creative Studio features state-of-the-art facilities including a video production studio with 4K cameras and green screen technology. The studio also hosts audio podcasting, vision mixing and editing facilities, as well as a creative media and design lab with graphics tablets, high-spec computers and industry-standard media technology including Adobe Creative Cloud software. If you want to set up your own business, our Enterprise Hive provides a wide range of start-up support, including incubation space, tailored mentoring from industry experts and networking opportunities. ACCREDITATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS This course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute and Institute of Hospitality. We are also a member of various industry associations including EVCOM, MIA, AEME and NOEA. PLACEMENTS Our course features a 12-month paid placement, during which you will not incur any tuition fees. (There is also the option to study the course without the placement.) Employers we have worked with include Maxin Prague, Brussels Marriott Grand Place, The Peninsula Hong Kong, Nivea (Hamburg), Accenture (Amsterdam), Nike (France), BI Worldwide, Hilton Metropole, Intu Properties and Air BnB. Transferring from another university At University College Birmingham, we consider applications from students who have studied, or are currently studying, a Higher Education course and now wish to transfer universities. What do I need to do? Additionally, the process will be dependent on the number of credits achieved on your current course. Where similar study is apparent, it may be possible for us to award Accreditation for Previous Learning (APL) and, therefore, advanced entry onto a course at UCB will be permitted. Please note; due to the nature of this process, all applications are considered on an individual basis.

International applicants

Additional fee information

UK: If you are a UK student enrolling on a Foundation Degree or a BA/BSc at University College Birmingham in 2021/22, your fee for this academic year will be £9,250. A half year tuition fee is £4625. This is a yearly fee, and will increase with inflation in subsequent years (in line with the government’s permitted rise). If you are an English student studying your first higher education qualification, you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company. You will not start repaying this loan until you leave the course and are earning over £25,000 a year. If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you should apply to Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland, or SAAS. The loans and grants available to you will differ from those available from Student Finance England. UCB does not charge for 24 or 48 week placements.
