The offshore wind industry underpins UK solutions to this challenge to reduce carbon emissions in line with the UK’s climate 2050 commitments. There's no better place study an MSc in Offshore Wind Energy. The University of Hull is leading the way in renewable energies and low carbon futures through Aura and the Energy and Environment Institute. Due to our favourable geography, local expertise and government support, the Humber Estuary in particular is now the globally leading location for offshore wind development and employment. On this degree, you'll gain a multidisciplinary understanding of the offshore wind industry and its relationship and environment, as well as developing professional skills and collaborative working.
Core modules All modules are subject to availability and this list may change at any time. Offshore Wind Energy You'll be introduced to the offshore wind industry across a range of disciplines. You'll explore the trade-offs between different pressures and requirements within current industry practice. Data Analysis and Visualisation You'll be introduced to data processing techniques and using machine learning. You'll develop a deep understanding of these methods and their differences to apply them to different problems. Contemporary Research Issues in Offshore Wind Energy Research Projects in Offshore Wind Students will work on different research projects that use physical and numerical models and computational analysis to understand the impact of the marine environment on offshore wind. Students will use these results to understand how the environmental impact of the Offshore Wind is dependent on the physical characteristics of the offshore wind infrastructure and their interaction with environmental processes in coastal and offshore environments. Materials and Manufacturing for Offshore Wind You'll be introduced to the materials and manufacturing processes for offshore wind technology, including the factors influencing wind turbine design, key materials, and manufacturing techniques for large scale production. Human Factors Exploring the processes that impact on human performance, you'll gain an understanding of how flaws in work design, task design and system design can lead to performance breakdown and human error. Research Dissertation (Offshore Wind Energy) The dissertation involves a desk/archive-based, laboratory or field project with an extended written project report of the student’s own choice in a relevant field. Each student conducts, with assistance, an individual research project or dissertation; which is closely supervised for the duration of the project by an expert in their respective field.
