Course summary
The construction industry is of considerable economic and strategic importance across the UK, and the construction process is complex, starting with design and planning through production to ongoing maintenance and refurbishment. The course is designed for those who are already working in, or aspiring to work in, the construction industry in a range of roles including Site Managers, Site Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors and Architectural Technologists. You will study a wide range of topics from mathematics to domestic and large scale construction though a mix of lectures, practical work and fieldwork. Lecturers on this course include professionally qualified and experienced Architects, Engineers and Project Managers; so you can be assured of gaining an industry-relevant, employment-focused qualification.
Modules
The course includes the following subjects: Year 1, Domestic Construction, Environmental Building Science, Materials, ICT and Design, Construction Contractual Procedures, Construction and Civil Engineering Management. Year 2, Lean Construction, Site Surveying, Structures for Construction, Building Pathology and Construction Refurbishment Practice, Energy Use in Building, Project.
Assessment method
Assessment will be through a mixture of coursework, in-class assessments, presentations and examinations.
