This distance-learning MSc is open to recent graduates and engineers from a wide range of disciplines, including:

Modules

You’ll work through eight 15-credit courses and a 60-credit project to gain your MSc. Our online degrees are flexible, so you can progress at a pace that suits you. Typically, it takes 27 months to complete the MSc part-time. To study part-time, we recommend you take no more than 30 credits per term. You can take breaks between courses, as long as you complete your studies within six years.

Assessment method

This degree usually combines online assessment with written exams that you attend in person. You can take your exams: on campus at the University of Aberdeen; at another university or exam centre that is closer to you; at your local British Council Office. We can help you find a convenient location for your exams. You then make the arrangements and book them yourself. We contact you six to eight weeks before your exam date to confirm your chosen location. We recommend exploring your options well before then. Entry requirements

A 2:1 (upper-second) UK honours degree (or equivalent) in any branch of Engineering. You can also apply if you have: a 2:1 UK honours degree (or equivalent) in Applied Mathematics or Physics or a 2:2 UK honours degree (or equivalent) in Engineering and three or more years of relevant industry experience. These are our minimum entry requirements. They are given as a guide and do not guarantee entry.

Additional fee information

Fees for this programme are charged per 15 credits and you only pay for the credits you want to study in the upcoming term. It's up to you how many credits you take each term, which gives you control over your costs and your workload. Taking fewer credits will increase the length of your studies. Cost per 15 credits for this degree, starting in academic year 2023-24 is £1,230. Tuition fees typically rise a little each academic year (normally around 5-9% increase). Indicative cost of the Master of Science is £13,440 based on 180 credits of study over three years, starting in September 2023. (PgCert = 60 credits; PgDip = 120 credits; MSc = 180 credits).
