And that requires getting out into the world to find out what people are up to. A degree in Anthropology at UWTSD gives you the opportunity to do just that – to study and experience human culture in a whole new way. Your concentration in Heritage studies will compliment this emphasis by allowing you to explore practices for the curation and conservation of human cultures. Modules
Anthropology explores the fundamentals of what it means to be human. It takes the whole world as its point of interest and brings one face to face with the eye-opening variety of human behaviours both in the present and from the past. Anthropology students at UWTSD have the opportunity to observe and engage with communities and cultures first-hand. For instance, students are able to undertake Voluntary Work Abroad and be active participants in staff’s research projects, both in the UK and abroad. We are one of the few places where undergraduate students are provided with in-the-field practical training. All anthropology students at University of Wales Trinity Saint David are offered, and assisted to take up, exciting opportunities to go abroad for field work. Heritage Studies is fundamentally about a concern for the past that is imagined and constructed by the present, but set within a wider appreciation for the future. This course is ideal for those who have an interest in the heritage sector and are considering a career in this area. There is a practical element to the degree where you can participate in work placements in museums, libraries and other heritage organisations. These placements are all underpinned by theoretical approaches to heritage studies. The programme is made up of the following combinations of core, compulsory and optional modules. These might alter a little from year to year owing to staff changes, curriculum development and recommendations following validation. However at level 4 there are 5 compulsory modules, including a cross-Faculty study skills modules completed by all students, and 1 optional modules. At level 5 there are 5 compulsory modules, including a School-specific research methods modules completed by all students, and 1 optional modules. At level 6 all students complete a Dissertation of either 20 or 40 credits in addition to 3 compulsory modules and 2 optional ones.
Assessment method
The programme is assessed in a variety of ways and will include several of the following type of assessment: essays of 1000 to 4000 words in length, document analyses, book reviews, short reports and reflective journals, timed tests, take home exams, field journals, posters, group and individual presentations, dissertations of 10,000 words, wikis, commentaries and film evaluations.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
