This qualification is for students wishing to develop their understanding of sport, exercise and coaching for competition, recreation and health. The course allows students to expand their existing knowledge through a large spectrum of exercise, fitness and coaching-based modules. Students will also benefit from carrying out a research dissertation based on an area of interest. The course is comprised of lectures, seminars, practicals, guest speakers maximising the development of students personal skills. This one year course is for those who have completed a relevant foundation degree or equivalent and would like to achieve the full BSc.

Course details


The course has a requirement of 120 credits divided between four 20-credit modules and one 40-credit independent research project. Modules will include: Independent research project (sport) Physical activity and health promotion Specialist coaching and leadership Qualitative analysis of sports performance Current practices in physical education and coaching.

Assessment method

Assessment for modules varies dependent on the content and may include written assignments, presentations, personal reflections, practical observations and many others. Students will also undertake an independent research project.
