The online Postgraduate Diploma in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine provides a unique integrated approach to preventative cardiovascular medicine and focuses on applying scientific principles to direct patient care. Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine is a rapidly evolving branch of medicine involved in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, coronary heart disease and peripheral vascular disease. Modules

The Postgraduate Diploma in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine consists of 6 modules per year, each of 6 weeks duration: Principles of Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine (20 credits) – This module focuses on the science underpinning preventative cardiovascular medicine and the assessment of cardiovascular risk as applied to clinical practice. Cardiovascular Risk Management (20 credits) – This modules aims to develop a critical understanding of nutrition and lifestyle factors in the development of cardiovascular disease. Lipid Metabolism in Clinical Practice (20 credits) – This module develops a comprehensive understanding of lipid metabolism and disorders, and their presentation and assessment in clinical practice. Management of Lipid Disorders (20 credits) – This module ensures that students develop a comprehensive understanding of lipid metabolism and disorders, and their presentation and assessment in clinical practice. Hypertension: Diagnosis and Management (20 credits) – This module enables students to develop a critical understanding of the pathophysiology and management of hypertension. Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine in Special Situations (20 credits) – This module involves gaining a critical understanding of preventative cardiovascular medicine in a wide range of relevant clinical conditions.

Assessment method

Assessment methods will vary for each module and include case-based examinations, discussions and scenarios, reflective portfolio, forum discussions and group activities.


Entry requirements

Health professionals, both UK and overseas, with an honours degree or equivalent (including international qualifications) are eligible to apply for the PG Diploma Diabetes course online. Non-graduates are also encouraged to apply (applicants will be asked to submit a piece of work for assessment to confirm that they are able to work comfortably at degree level). Applicants should submit copies of the following with their application: •qualification certificates •one written reference •English language qualification (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent).
