Course summary
BSc Mathematics of the University of Chester is a successful course with a very good reputation in the mathematics community of UK and has been run for more than 30 years. This course is mainly focused on Applied and Computational mathematics and is carefully designed to maximise students’ enjoyment of their mathematical studies. We have a 100% student satisfaction rate in 2020 according to the National Student Survey 2020 (NSS). The degree offers the communication and programme skills needed for a successful future career, and in demand from employers. Many real-life applications from biology, physics, and finance, as for example the evolution of tumour growth, the wave transmission through optical fibers, the prediction of stock prices, or even problems related to game theory and big data, involve mathematical models. Our teaching mainly focus on analytical, stochastic and numerical methods of mathematical modelling. The syllabus also contains various topics from logic, number theory, graphs theory, optimal control theory and theory of networks that are particular useful in cybersecurity, cryptography and supply chain logistics. In addition, we teach some popular modules like data analysis, machine learning and statistics, that provide expertise for jobs in data analysis companies, the NHS, banks, etc. 96% of graduates find jobs within six months after graduation. We have modules with teaching based on computer laboratories, or supplemented with taught hours in computer laboratories. All mathematics staff are research active and internationally recognised with an extensive net of research collaborations with leading researchers in the UK, USA, Germany, France, Japan, Austria, Australia, Sweden, China, Greece, etc. Many of our graduates, due to our programme of studies, have continued their studies at a postgraduate level or Postgraduate Diploma level at the University of Chester and at other UK universities.

Other vocational qualifications at Level 3 will also be considered, such as NVQs. If you are a mature student (21 or over) and have been out of education for a while or do not have experience or qualifications at Level 3 (equivalent to A Levels), then our Foundation Year courses will help you to develop the skills and knowledge you will need to succeed in your chosen degree.
Unistats information
The student satisfaction data is from students surveyed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of student respondents and response rates can be important in interpreting the data – it is important to note your experience may be different from theirs. This data will be based on the subject area rather than the specific course. Read more about this data on the Discover Uni website.
