Course summary
**UCAS Code Secondary Business QTS (PGCE): 2X5T** PGCE Secondary Business Studies Pathway The education and training of Business Studies teachers is a long-established feature of UWTSD and the university is the main provider of Business Studies teachers in Wales. As such, we are privileged to enjoy an enviable reputation in the sector. The course incorporates the most recent innovations and thinking in Business Studies teaching. The Business Studies Pathway provides an engaging and relevant professional training that enables you to: • transform your Business Studies expertise into competent and effective classroom teaching; • develop an understanding of how pupils learn Business subjects; • critically evaluate and enhance your teaching to improve quality and effectiveness in the classroom. The new curriculum suggests that a key purpose of the curriculum is for learners to be 'enterprising and creative contributors'. Our PGCE recognises that Business teachers have a part to play in developing learners who can take calculated risks, think creatively, and identify and grasp opportunities through inspirational teaching and making connections between the business world and education. The Business Studies course has strong links with the professional Business Studies teaching networks and guest speakers include subject officers from the WJEC as well as key representatives from Welsh Government initiatives. We are pleased to have strong links with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David's Swansea Business School where the 'Big Business Bonanza' provides PGCE Business students with an annual opportunity to deliver innovative and exciting workshops to Year 10 pupils who have opted to do Business. Come and join us to help shape the next chapter Welsh education!
Modules
Modules The content of the programme has been grouped under four module headings: • The Learner – who am I teaching? • Learners, schools and communities – where am I teaching? • Researching the learning – what, why and how am I teaching? (focus on research) • Leading the Learning – what, why and how am I teaching? (focus on subject discipline in practice) Organising the modules in this way means that you will be able to focus on the pupil and take full account of the wider context that impact on education. You will also be able to ensure that your classroom-based practice draws on a sound research base. This means that our programme will challenge you both practically and intellectually at the same time.

Assessment The programme offers 60 credits at Masters level and 60 credits at Graduate Level. These are awarded on successful completion of module assessments which include: • Case studies • Portfolios • Video presentation • Research Project All assessments are closely linked to practice and are designed to offer you the opportunity to develop teaching and learning that has a positive impact on children and young people. Award of QTS Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is awarded to those student teachers who have fully met the professional teacher standards for QTS. http://learning.gov.wales/resources/collections/professional-standards?lang=en This aspect of the programme is assessed through a portfolio of evidence and a professional dialogue with a specialist mentor and tutor.
