Course summary
If you want to gain a high level of skill which will open opportunities for you to work as a make-up artist and hair stylist in the fashion/media, theatre, TV or Film industry then this is the course for you. Having a working theatre on site will enable you to regularly participate in productions gaining valuable experience in a real theatre environment. We also have strong links with the Wyvern, local production groups, police film makers and many more. You will also have the opportunity to compete in competitions and attend trade shows and you will showcase your work in an exciting vibrant end of year show. You will have the opportunity to take part in visits abroad, external events and visits to museums/galleries when available. You are also advised to attend and visit as many exhibitions/trade shows as possible in their your time to support your studies. Progression On successful completion of your HND you could go and work directly in industry working as a make-up artist and hair stylist for Fashion/Media, theatre/TV/Film. Alternatively, depending on your grade, you may be able to complete a second or third ‘top-up’ year of a suitable degree at another institution.

Modules in year 1 include: The Performing Arts Industry; Professional Development; Period Hair and Make-up; Fashion and Fashion Editorial Hair and Makeup; Investigation of Specialism; Hair and Make-up Applicationp; Special FX; Production Communication. Modules in year 2 include: Creative Research Project; Working in the Performing Arts; Management Role; Costume Design; Hair and Make-up Design; The Freelance Hair and Makeup Artist; Special FX 2.
