This qualification is for students with an interest in competitive sport, exercise and coaching for recreation and health. The course allows students to develop their knowledge through a large spectrum of exercise, science, fitness and coaching-based modules aiming to demonstrate how the applied nature of sports and science can influence performance and fitness. The course is comprised of lectures, seminars, practicals, speakers and group work maximising the development of students personal skills. Learners who complete the foundation degree at East Riding College will have the option of continuing their academic development by progressing on to the BSc (Top-Up) in Sports Coaching and Health Sciences..

Modules

The course has a requirement of 240 credits equally divided between twelve 20-credit modules. Examples of modules studied on the course include: Level Four Research methods and study skills Anatomy, physiology and kinesiology for sports performance Introdction to sports coaching The aetiology, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries in sport Health and fitness assessments Exercise psychology Level Five Sports coaching pedagogy Sport and exercise massage Applied fitness and training Nutritional strategies for sports performance Advanced professional practice (work-based learning) Research project
