What does this TEF outcome mean?

Course summary

The level 4 units in the first year of the HTQ will provide students with a broad introduction to the support professions found in the healthcare sector. This would typically cover: • Law Policy and Ethical Practice L4 • Anatomy and Physiology L4 • Supporting the Individual through Integrated Health and Social Care L4 • Principles of Health Education L4Professional Practice L4 • Evidence Based Practice L4 • Professional Practice L4 • Effective Healthcare Practice L4 Students will gain a wide range of sector knowledge, tied to practical skills gained in evidence-based practice, personal research, self-study, directed study and workplace learning and experience. Our Level 5 (year 2) units are designed to support progression into relevant occupational areas in healthcare and students will concentrate on nursing as a particular aspect of healthcare practice. Students will need to have access to relevant, suitable, and appropriate workplaces/placements before embarking on the unit of nursing. The Level 5 units are: • Innovation and Improvement through Participatory Action Research L5 • Reflective Approaches in Implementing Person-centred Practice L5 • Planning Care in Practice L5 • Meeting the Needs of Individuals with Long-term Health Conditions L5 • Team and Individual Leadership: Mentoring and Coaching Others L5 • End of Life Care Planning and Support L5 • Nursing – Principles and Fundamentals of Practice L5 By the end of level 5 students will have developed a sound understanding of the principles of nursing in the healthcare sector and will have learned to apply those principles more widely. Students will be able to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems. They will be able to perform effectively in their chosen field of nursing and will have the qualities necessary for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making.

In year 1 you will study: • Law Policy and Ethical Practice • Anatomy and Physiology • Supporting the Individual through Integrated Health and Social Care • Principles of Health Education L4Professional Practice • Evidence Based Practice • Professional Practice • Effective Healthcare Practice In year 2 you will study: • Innovation and Improvement through Participatory Action Research • Reflective Approaches in Implementing Person-centred Practice • Planning Care in Practice • Meeting the Needs of Individuals with Long-term Health Conditions • Team and Individual Leadership: Mentoring and Coaching Others • End of Life Care Planning and Support • Nursing – Principles and Fundamentals of Practice By the end of this course, you will be able to: • Demonstrate understanding of the application of law and policy in a health and social care practice setting. • Examine the health, care and support services available to an individual requiring multidisciplinary care • Develop a quality improvement plan embedding co-production principles. • Design a local health education initiative for potential implementation using a theoretical model of health education. • Assess the implications of the use of mathematical methods and scientific rationales for healthcare practice. • Explain the interrelationship of body systems in good and ill health from a physiological perspective • Develop a participatory action research proposal to explore a specific aspect of service delivery in health and social care • Review the benefits of planning person-centred care/episodes of care in the workplace. • Support the needs of individuals with long-term health conditions in a healthcare setting. • Critically explore how mentorship and coaching practices empower individuals and benefit self, service users and organizations. • Examine how cultural, religious and social factors influence end-of-life care planning and support • Assess the impact of significant life events on individuals and their social networks. On successful completion of the course, you will achieve the following qualification: BTEC Higher National Diploma in Healthcare Professions' Support for England [EDEXCEL]

Assessment method

You will be assessed by assignments, work-related projects, demonstration of professional competence in work-based situations, and practical activities that apply the knowledge you have gained. There are no written exams. When not attending timetabled sessions, you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. This will typically involve reading articles and books, working on individual projects, undertaking preparation of coursework assignments and presentations. Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities including online resources, the library and canvas, the online virtual learning platform.

We welcome applications from anyone with relevant work and experience and capable of reaching the standards required by the qualification. All students are expected to have a good standard of computer literacy. Applicants will be invited for interview to discuss their work and experience in more detail. Students who have recently been in education are likely to need one of the following: ● A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent) and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as Maths and English ● Other related Level 3 qualifications ● An Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution ● Relevant work experience ● An international equivalent to the above qualifications. Our Recognition of Prior Learning policy means that students’ previous learning and experience can be taken into account, and they may be awarded certain qualifications or units of a qualification based on that learning or experience.

Interview

Students applying for this course will need a certain level of English language skills. This course is taught and assessed completely in English. Before accepting students onto the programme, we will ensure that those who are non-native English speakers and who have not had their final two years of schooling in English, can demonstrate ability equivalent to the standard of : ● Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2 ● PTE Academic 51, or ● IELTS 5.5 (reading and writing must be at 5.5).
