Course summary
This Higher National Diploma (HND) and is an exciting opportunity for learners to be part of the future of Computing in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security. The Level 4 HNC (Year 1) gives students a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of different fields of computing and approaches to problem solving. The Level 5 HND (Year 2) provides a specialist focus, which is on Cyber Security. This is designed to support progression into the workplace in a specific role related to cyber security in addition to Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing. The course will cover a range of units in the first year, and then specialise in the second year. All materials will be provided, some of which will be hosted by external systems such as AWS and Microsoft Azure and CISCO. This course is available to anyone who has a keen interest in computing with a focus on cyber security. Ideally, applicants will have foundation knowledge in many areas of computing. There is a prerequisite knowledge, which could be either from personal experience, relevant industry experience, or from formalised academic studies. This will be assessed on an individual basis through an informal interview as part of your application process. This career-focused qualification will enable learners to directly enter employment in a variety of computing roles or offer an opportunity to progress to a university degree such as a top-up. Additionally to this, completing learners could also pursue a degree level (level 6) apprenticeship following this pathway of study.

Assessment method
The course will cover a range of units in the first year, and then specialise in the second year. All materials will be provided. Assessment will be covered by written reports, practical activities, presentations, team work and other methods. There are no exams. At Level 4, students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of general computing through six core units, including a unit assessed through a Pearson-set assignment. To complete the Level 4, 8 units must be achieved. At Level 5, they will focus on cyber security with optional work experience.
