Course summary
This course will help you develop a range of skills related to modern computing and technology, preparing you for work in the computing industry or to go on and study a top-up degree. The emphasis is on implementing computing solutions for a modern landscape. This course will give you the opportunity to take advantage of excellent networking and software engineering facilities situated in a purpose-built environment. You will benefit from a large amount of tutor led class time from our professional, friendly, and approachable staff. Each of the modules are assessed by individual or group coursework assignments. Special features include small group sizes ensure you get the support you need to succeed and an opportunity to progress onto a final top-up year and achieve a full degree. This course is available to anyone who has a keen interest in computing and cloud systems with a focus on cyber security. Ideally, applicants will have foundation knowledge in many areas of computing. There is a prerequisite knowledge, which could be either from personal experience, relevant industry experience, or from formalised academic studies. This will be assessed on an individual basis through a formal interview as part of your application process. This career-focused qualification will enable learners to directly enter employment in the cloud computing industry or offer an opportunity to progress to a university degree. They will benefit companies by providing access to a uniquely skilled pool of cloud computing talent, whilst creating greater opportunities for graduates to be employed by the world’s leading companies.

Modules
Year 1 Modules include; Programming, Networking, Professional Practice, Database Design & Development, Security, Managing a Successful Computing Project, Website Design & Development, Software Development "Life Cycles" Each of the modules are assessed by individual or group coursework assignments. Year 2 Modules include; Business Intelligence, Cryptology, Forensics, Information Security Management, Network Management, and Virtual & Augmented Reality Development
Assessment method
The course will cover a range of units in the first year, and then specialise in the second year. All materials will be provided, some of which will be hosted by AWS cloud systems. Assessment will be covered by written reports, practical activities (some of which will be hosted in the Cloud by AWS), presentations, team work and other methods. There are no exams. However, learners who successfully complete year 1 will be eligible to apply for and study the AWS qualification in Cloud Fundamentals. This additional qualification is external to this study programme, and may involve an additional fee. At Level 4, students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the cloud sector through six core units, including a unit assessed through a Pearson-set assignment. To complete the Level 4, 8 units must be achieved.
