Study for a masters degree in Town Planning while you work, with no tuition fees. Our Chartered Town Planner Degree Apprenticeship reflects the key principles and ideas that underpin planning as a discipline. You’ll advance your knowledge, skills and expertise in sustainability and environmental planning, housing planning, plan making and policy, planning implementation, site studies and urban design amongst others. Your learning will be directly relevant to a wide range of sectors including construction, environment, housing, energy, transport, regeneration, coastal, heritage and conservation, and minerals and waste. The practical and applied nature of the apprenticeship means that you’ll be putting your skills and knowledge into practice as you learn, so you and your organisation will benefit straight away. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will become Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) and use the title Chartered Town Planner.

Assessment method
You will be assessed at the end of each module you undertake (on-programme assessments) which will contribute towards the final award of your qualification. You will also undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete your apprenticeship when all on-programme assessments have been successfully passed. The End Point Assessment is aligned with The RTPI Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). This is a substantial piece of work that includes at least 12 months of supervised professional practice, along with a rigorous final assessment which will typically takes a further 10-12 months to complete in addition to the duration of the degree.

Entry requirements
In addition to the person specifications that have been set out by your employer, these are the entry requirements for the course. • Employment in a suitable role on a permanent contract exceeding 30 hours per week • Employer support to undertake this course • Confirmed eligibility to be funded as an apprentice as set out within the ESFA’s Funding Rules • A completed Initial Needs Assessment Form • Evidence of Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English e.g. GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, Functional Skills, or ESFA-approved equivalents* • A first degree at second class honours (2:2) or above in a subject that is related to the field of town planning. It should incorporate study elements of some of space, environment, design social/urban analysis and public policy. Examples of subjects that are considered to be relevant are: Environmental Studies, Architecture, Urban Studies, Geography, Economics, Politics and Surveying** • If English is not your first language, you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 or equivalent English language qualification, as recognised by ARU.
