Course summary
Being a social worker is a demanding but incredibly rewarding career. On the BSc (Hons) Social Work at Northumbria you will have direct involvement in people’s lives in order to help safeguard their best interests, even if they do not always recognise this for themselves. Our course will allow you to develop your learning and personal attributes to secure a successful career within the field of social work. BSc (Hons) Social Work is delivered through a range of learning methods including lectures, seminars and tutorials as well as 170 days of assessed placements in the final two years of study. BSc (Hons) Social Work at Northumbria University is endorsed by The College of Social Work and rated third in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2013. Here you will be taught by leading academics who have extensive practical experience in a wide range of social work contexts. Successful completion of the course will enable you to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a legal requirement for all practicing social workers in the UK. Many of our graduates from this course go on to work as social workers, dealing with children in need, caring for users with substance or alcohol misuse, people who are homeless or those suffering with mental health problems. Graduates have successful careers in organisations such as local authorities or voluntary sectors, such as NSPCC, as well as going on to further education. Placements As well as academic study, students will undertake two practice placements (170 Hours) in social work settings and have the opportunity to demonstrate they are able to meet the required standards and professional capabilities for social work.
