Course summary

The BTECH HNC in Manufacturing Engineering (HTQ) lays the foundation of learning by providing a broad introduction to the engineering sector as well as a focused introduction to manufacturing engineering. Students will gain a wide range of scientific and engineering knowledge linked to practical skills obtained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and in the workplace. By the end of Level 4 study, students will have sound knowledge of the basic concepts of manufacturing engineering. They will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as in general skills and qualities relevant to these key areas of engineering. Upon completing the HNC Manufacturing Engineering programme in England (HTQ), graduates are primed for dynamic roles within the manufacturing sector, boasting a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes. With expertise in areas such as production planning, quality control, and materials management, they are well-positioned to pursue a range of career opportunities. Graduates may find themselves working as manufacturing engineers, overseeing the design and optimization of production systems to enhance efficiency and productivity. They could also explore roles in process improvement, utilizing their skills to identify and implement strategies for cost reduction and waste minimization. Additionally, opportunities may arise in research and development, where graduates contribute to the innovation of new technologies and techniques to drive forward the manufacturing industry. On successful completion of the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC), students can develop their careers in the engineering sector through: • Entering employment • Continuing existing employment • Linking with the appropriate Professional Bodies • Linking with the appropriate vendor accredited certificates [if appropriate] • Committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) further provides a solid academic foundation in engineering, which students can build on should they decide to continue their studies beyond the Certificate stage.
