Course summary
The BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering course is intended as your first step towards becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer and a practitioner in the global community. Civil Engineers are responsible for the design, management and construction of major infrastructure projects such as transport projects, bridges, major buildings, water supply, sewage, harbours and sea defences. Graduates from the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering programme are characterised by their ability to develop appropriate solutions to engineering challenges by using new or existing technologies, through innovation, creativity and change. Chartered Engineers are variously engaged in technical and commercial leadership and possess effective interpersonal skills as well as digital literacy.

Qualification requirements
GCSE English and Maths at grade C+/4 or an accepted equivalence. Only the following equivalent qualifications are accepted for English: Functional Skills Level 2 English and OCN Access to HE Core English (12 credits at Level 2 or 3 in English) Only the following equivalent qualifications are accepted for Mathematics: Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and OCN Access to HE Core Mathematics (12 credits at Level 2 or 3 in Mathematics)

Students must usually have studied for a minimum of two years post GCSE level. However, we will consider applications from mature students who do not have two years of post-16 study, where they have relevant work experience.
