Course summary

The MSc Advanced Practice in Healthcare is aimed at healthcare professionals from a variety of clinical backgrounds from across the globe with a range of skills who want to develop their research skills and clinical expertise. This programme will enable you to advance your practice and develop skills essential to the role of the advanced practitioner and clinical team leader. Exit awards available: PGCert, PGDip, MSc This multi-professional programme will allow you to explore and advance your specialist area of practice. You will benefit from the knowledge provided by experienced clinical academics and researchers. There are opportunities to choose from a wide range of optional modules to fit with your specialist area. Theoretical and practical sessions are delivered in world-class learning facilities.

Modules

For the MSc award, you will study 4 compulsory modules (120 Masters level credits) supported by experienced lecturers, supervisors and personal tutors. You will study a further 60 Masters level credits through a range of optional modules selected by you to fit with your professional role and your future aspirations. All the modules are delivered by experts in their subject areas. Exit awards are also available (PGCert, PGDip).   Compulsory modules: Creating and Applying Evidence (20 credits) Clinical Health Assessment (20 credits) or Current Issues in Health (20 credits) Leadership in Advanced Clinical Practice Dissertation (60 credits) (same as MSc ACP) Optional modules: Supportive and End of Life Care Caring for Cancer Patients Current Issues in Health  Introduction to Leadership and Management for Health Health Promotion Health Care Evaluation and Commissioning Anticoagulation Management in Primary Care Qualitative Research Methods Systematic Reviews and Evidence Synthesis Mixed Methods Research Designs Epidemiology Statistics and Research Methods

Assessment method

The programme has a variety of assessment styles including essays, oral presentations, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations and examinations. The dissertation is a substantial piece of work. For the dissertation you will be supervised by an academic within the department and supported by a series of online resources. The dissertation is assessed by 2 examiners.

Academic requirements We accept a range of qualifications, our country pages show you what qualifications we accept from your country. English language requirements You can satisfy our English language requirements in two ways: by holding an English language qualification to the right level by taking and successfully completing one of our English courses for international students English to IELTS 6.5 (preferably with a score of 7 for writing). If you need help with your English language skills then support is available.  The English for Academic Purposes Presessional course is for international students who have a conditional offer to study at the University, but who do not currently meet the English language requirements. The course is tailored to your level of English and allows you to meet the English language requirements for your programme without retaking IELTS. The EAP programme runs throughout the year and offers different programme lengths ranging from 42 weeks to 6 weeks. The length of course you need depends on your future course, your existing IELTS score and the English level you need for your university degree.
