The Cornwall College Group has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
This programme is ideal if you would like to study any of the science-based degrees we offer but don't have the right qualifications or grades to do so. Science Gateway will prepare you for success on our degree programmes by helping you develop your knowledge in relevant areas of biology and chemistry, your practical skills and your academic study skills. The programme runs for 1 year at Cornwall Cornwall's thriving Newquay campus and will be taught in small supportive groups by experienced tutors. Successful completion of this programme will allow you to progress to the first year of your chosen Foundation Degree. This inclusive and intensive programme covers core principles in biology and chemistry (with physics modules available for progression to some programmes) and provide ample opportunities to acquire new laboratory and fieldwork techniques. You will refresh key elements of maths, essential for higher level study and develop your academic skills to a high level to support success on your chosen degree and beyond. You will learn the method of science, research sills, academic writing and referencing and presentation skills.

Modules
During the Foundation Year you will study 120 credits to include 60 credits of biology and 40 credits of either chemistry or physics depending on your chosen progression route, with the majority of learners taking chemistry options. You will also study 20 credits of maths and academic study skills designed specifically to support success on your chosen science degree programme. Foundation Biology (20 credits); Further Biology (20 credits); Practical and Field Studies in Biology (20 credits); Foundation Chemistry (20 Credits); Further Chemistry (20 Credits); Foundation Physics (20 Credits); Further Physics (20 Credits); Quantitative Methods (10 credits); Study Skills for Scientists (10 credits).
