Course summary

Join the University of Southampton, ranked in the World Top 40 and 7th in the UK for Statistics and Operational Research (QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2022). Many prestigious organisations recruit our students because of the strong vocational training on this programme. You should be numerate, a good communicator with strong interpersonal skills, and enjoy problem-solving. A three-month project follows successful completion of the instructional component. Most projects involve either working on a placement or in partnership with a company or organisation ESF; EPSRC Masters training packages.

Assessment method

Assessment is made using examinations, presentations, coursework assignments and a final dissertation.


How to apply

International applicants

If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate your English meets our Band C: IELTS 6.5 overall, with minimum 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking. For information on other accepted English language tests, please see the website.

Entry requirements

An upper second-class honours degree or equivalent qualification approved by the University, in a quantitative subject with a strong Maths background (mathematics, statistics, economics, etc).
