Course summary

This course is designed to further your career in the healthcare profession, biomedical industry or in academia and has the potential to lead on to a professional doctorate. Study for the full a Masters qualification or study individual modules for CPD points, which can be studied online. This course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science and we are a regional education provider for Learning Beyond Registration.

Modules

Core modules: Research Project; Scientific Analysis, Review and Presentation; Research Methods and Bioethics. Specialist subjects are chosen from the following modules: Cellular Pathology; Clinical Chemistry; Haematology and Transfusion; Medical Microbiology; Cytology; Cancer and Heart Disease; Pharmacology; Molecular Biology and DNA Technology; Cell Culture and Antibody Technology; Special Topics in Molecular Biology. Courses are modular and can be studied individually for professional accreditation.

Students will undertake self-guided and formal assessments.

Entry requirements

A UK Honours degree (minimum 2.2) or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as biology, biomedical science, pharmacology or microbiology. Applicants should already be working in pathology or industrial biomedical laboratories or have a strong interest in biomedical science. Applicants with relevant employment experience or other relevant qualifications may also be considered. International students need IELTS 6.5 (with minimum of 5.5 in reading, listening, speaking and writing).
