Course summary

Become a nurse with MNurs Nursing (Child and Mental Health) at the University of Southampton. On your four-year integrated masters you will learn how to Improve the quality of life for young service users and patients with complex mental health issues, through excellence in care, delivery of personal values and a tailored understanding of individuals’ needs, built upon the values of compassion and empathy. This course will prepare you to work in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) through a combination of placements and study. While at Southampton, you will study:

  • the science that underpins nursing
  • the evidence base behind the nurse's role
  • how nurses promote health and help people to maintain health and well-being
You will develop practice skills through a range of nursing placements, and your learning will be further supported through simulated practice and clinical skills teaching. You will also learn with and from students of other health professions in both theory and practice. Assessment method

Assessments on this programme range from coursework, written and pratical exams to projects . Assessment takes place throughout the course to ensure that you are reaching the right levels of attainment. Your practical skills will be assessed whist you are on placement and recorded by your practice mentor.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

GCSEs: Minimum of GCSE Maths and English Language (A*-C or 4-9). GCSE Science (A*-C or 4-9) also required if not offered as a level 3 qualification. Certain GCSE equivalent qualifications will be considered. FETAC / QQI Level 5 120 Credits: Pass in every module, with distinction essential in at least 5 modules including Human Growth and Development (or Biology), Anatomy and Physiology and Nursing Theory. Recent relevant study must have been taken within the last 5 years. You may be required to attend a selection day. Satisfactory Occupational Health and Police Checks required.
