University Centre Askham Bryan has opted into the TEF and received a Bronze award.
This programme is aimed at those wanting to work in the animal management sector in industries as varied as animal welfare, production, education, companion animals and training to name a few. The course will provide learners with underpinning knowledge of animal husbandry, welfare, behaviour, animal science and management. There will be an emphasis on the development of skills; general skills such as communication, IT and teamwork, and some practical skills such as animal handling, health checking, monitoring and evaluating behaviour, training animals, design and maintenance of animal accommodation and assessing animal welfare. Work placement forms an essential part of the course allowing on the job training and development of further skills to make students more employable. .
(FdSc AM)-Year 1 (Level 4) Core Modules include • Personal and Professional Development • Animal Anatomy and Physiology • Introduction to Business • Animal Behaviour • Practical Animal Health and Husbandry Elective modules, students would elect one of the following, • Ecological Conservation Skills • Interpretive Enclosure Design Year 2 (Level 5) Core Modules include • Skills for Research, • Breeding and Inheritance • Welfare Legislation and Ethics One elective business module needs to be elected from the following, • Business Enterprise • Collections Management • Project and Events Management Elective modules, students would elect two of the following, • Animal Nutrition • Clinical Health and Laboratory Skills • Conservation Education • Principles of Training
Assessments may include; Course work, Examinations, online assessment, presentations, Viva-voce and practical assessments.
