Course summary

The programme will introduce relevant live projects, commercial and client-focused activity through a Final exhibition of student work and a design installation. These will encourage the student to explore and experiment into developing design techniques and materials outside the context in which first studied, proposing new and exciting ways to approach floristry design. It is intended that this approach will allow students to follow their own creative direction whilst under the supervision of dedicated specialist tutors. What will I study? The programme aims to:

  • Provide students with a curriculum that encourages experimentation of creative skills within floristry design, whilst finely tuning professional skills to enable the students to effectively plan and gain sustainable employment.
  • Produce graduates with an entrepreneurial mind-set and skills to generate original ideas in response to identified needs and shortfalls within the floristry industry, with the ability to act upon this in personal development planning.
  • Produce capable and well-rounded independent graduates with higher-level practical skills that can contribute to the wider economy and developments taking place, particularly in relation to the Floristry Industry.
  • Provide a flexible learning environment that enables students to shift from an abstracted study to developing knowledge and skills that can help them adapt to changing and future environments.

Learning and Teaching Approach This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students learning styles and preferences. For all modules, theory lectures will deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students will have practical demonstration sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically. Study at this level demonstrates increasing sophistication of design thinking and critical analysis within the design process. There is an expectation for considerable self–direction and independence particularly within the Creative Research Project and Final Exhibition. What is the contact time? For each 20 credit module students will receive approximately 54 hours of class/contact time with the tutor. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (146 hours per module). Students can expect to receive their timetables during induction week. What else can I expect? -Additional facilities include Science Centre, IT suites, dedicated University Centre, study spaces and social areas, and modern Learning Resources Centre.

A relevant Foundation Degree or related HND or higher qualification. Life Experience may be taken into account for mature applicants, who may also be required to successfully complete an entry task.

English language requirements

If first language is not English, or a Tier 4 student visa to study is required and GCSE grade C/4 English or equivalent is not held, English language proficiency level such as International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6.0 overall (with a minimum 5.5 in each skill) will need evidencing.
