In choosing to study joint honours Drama and Theatre/History at Aberystwyth University you will immerse yourself in a rigorous and challenging discipline combining both practical and theoretical elements. In Drama and Theatre you will look through and beyond historic and established forms to explore what drama, theatre and performance can be now and in the future. In History you will encounter a broad range of historical periods, and gain an understanding of how and why the world has evolved the way it has. On this degree programme you will have the opportunity to encounter a wide range of critical and creative forms and practices and develop your capacity as an independent theatre-maker, thinker and scholar, while equipping yourself for research and analysis in many contexts. As a student studying Drama and Theatre/History at Aberystwyth University you will enjoy full membership of the National Library of Wales. One of only five copyright libraries in the United Kingdom, with over six million books, maps, prints and manuscripts, it is situated within a five minute walk of the University. The intellectual, practical and transferable skills acquired whilst studying on this programme will prepare you for a variety of careers in the creative arts and the public sphere. One of our notable and esteemed alumni is Alex Jones who is currently the longest running female presenter on the One Show. During her time at Aberystwyth University, Alex Jones studied Drama and Theatre Studies. Many of our students have been successful in obtaining employment in these fields; Acting and performing; Directing; Designing; Script writing; Teaching and education; Arts administration; Marketing; Management; Public Relations.

A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Business, Psychology, Mathematics, and Science degree schemes also require a minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in Mathematics and/or Science at GCSE (or equivalent).

Additional fee information

The UK and Welsh Governments have confirmed that EU students commencing their studies in the academic year 2021/22 will no longer be eligible for home fee status. Fees for EU students will therefore be charged in line with international fees from 2021/22 onwards. Please note Irish nationals will continue to be eligible for home fee status and support by the Welsh Government under the Common Travel Area arrangement
