The BA (Hons) Production Arts: Props, Painting and Set is an immersive programme, tailored for individuals passionate about the behind-the-scenes creations that brings theatrical productions, films and live events to life. The programme aims to develop and support academically engaged makers with rigorous technical, creative, reflective and collaborative skills. You will learn through workshops, lectures, projects and productions; collaborating with peers and visiting professional practitioners. You will undertake projects which cover research and experimentation of design interpretation and realisation. This comprehensive training experience is designed to equip you with the practical skills and creative techniques essential in the world of production arts, including the use of sustainable materials and new technologies. This programme emphasises artistic expression and practical craftsmanship, providing a unique opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the industry. Whether aspiring to work in theatre, film or live events, you will graduate with skills for professional industry in prop making, scenic painting, and set construction, ready to contribute your creative talents to the dynamic world of visual storytelling.

Modules

Working alongside students from each of the other Theatre production courses, enabling you to engage and understand the collaborative work of theatre.

Assessment method

Emphasis is placed on your own interaction with challenges and opportunities which the programme provides and you are expected to develop an independent and self -directed approach to your studies and praxis, which will serve you in your continuing professional development. The teaching and learning methods used to enable these outcomes to be achieved and demonstrated are: Studio teaching, lectures and workshops; Professional masterclasses; Seminars; Group and one to one tutorials; Tutor and peer supervised production work.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Applicants must attend an in-person interview either in London or at one of our international interview locations. In the past, interviews have been held at venues in New York, San Francisco, Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney. International interview venues and dates will be listed on Central's website once they are confirmed. Applicants who are unable to attend an in-person interview will be invited to book onto a distance interview, which will take place on Zoom.
