Course summary
A number of our degrees are also offered with an additional foundation year (Year 0). Whether you are a school-leaver or someone considering returning to study but don’t have the entry requirements for your chosen subject, a foundation year course may be just what you’re looking for. A foundation year is the first year of a four year programme which: •provides an introduction not only to study at University but also to your chosen subject •offers you a highly supportive environment where you can develop the self-confidence, knowledge, skills and understanding for further study. Our foundation year enables you to enter our BA Education Studies course even if you don’t have the formal qualifications or experience to meet the entry requirements. If you are passionate about how education has shaped your life and wider issues facing the world, and believe it is vital to address topics such as sustainability and social justice, then Education Studies is for you. Our course explores some big questions underpinning education through the lens of psychology, sociology, history and philosophy. You will engage with the issues that influence approaches to learning and will be able to compare education systems in a variety of countries and cultures to build an understanding of how people learn and develop throughout their lives. This thought provoking and stimulating course also gives you the opportunity to explore areas such as gender, race, equality, politics, multiculturalism, pedagogy and representations of education in popular culture.
