Course summary

Our accredited BSc allows you to undertake a scientific approach to understanding the mind, emotions and actions, considering the biological influences, social pressures and environmental factors that affect how people think, act and feel. From gaining insight into neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease to understanding mind and behaviour more generally, this course will enable you to gain broad subject-specific knowledge and advanced skills in communication, research and critical thinking ready to pursue an exciting and dynamic career. Psychology will equip you with a well-rounded education and in addition to studying the principal areas specified by the British Psychological Society (BPS) curriculum, you will have the opportunity to tailor your degree to reflect your career aspirations and interests with our suite of optional modules. Principle areas of psychology include: biological, cognitive, social and developmental psychology as well as individual differences and historical issues. You will gain fundamental scientific skills in research design, statistics, qualitative and survey methods. With this knowledge, you will learn how to conduct research and critically analyse that of others. Neuroscience is a vibrant discipline that explores the brain, from how it enables us to sense and move through our environment, to degeneration in health and in disease. With over 600 types of neurological conditions currently identified (NHS England), understanding how the brain and nervous system work is integral to the future of human health and well-being. You'll be equipped with the multidisciplinary skills and knowledge used by Neuroscientists (typically research scientists) in their quest to design and carry out experiments to understand more about the brain and nervous system.
