Course summary

The programme aims to:

  • Develop students who can assess, plan and implement care delivery and make sound judgements about the effectiveness of the delivery (local, sustainable delivery via a flexible, multi-disciplinary workforce).
  • Develop student’s personal and transferable skills including assessing and planning, problem solving and decision making, health promotion, interdisciplinary working, interpersonal skills and reflective practice (linking theory, policy and practice).
  • Develop students’ principles of integrity and compassion to support best practice, effective communication and professionalism (person-centred practitioner).
  • Enable students to understand the core principles of continuous professional development, whilst collecting and collating evidence to support this.
This course is particularly relevant to people already working in or looking to develop a career within Health and Social Care. This course provides a range of skills relevant across a variety of different professions. People who have completed this course have gone on to work in areas including Adult Nursing, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy If you wish to continue studying beyond this course, it will provide you with a strong academic basis to do so. Course progression routes could include the BSc (Top Up) Health and Social Care programme.

Assessment method

The primary way of delivering this course is on campus. Students will receive between 6 and 8 hours of teaching per week throughout this course. On campus teaching includes a combination of lectures, small group seminars, workshops, guest lectures and one to one discussions with your tutor. Additional one-to-one meetings with tutors will provide further support. Throughout the degree, students will be assessed in a number of ways, including (but not limited to) written assignments, presentations, exams and practical assessments.

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have any of the following: 32 UCAS points from two A Levels; level 3 BTEC National; an Access to HE Diploma or relevant real-world experience as per UCNL’s wider participation policy. It is desirable for students to have achieved GCSE grade C or above for English and Maths or Functional Skills. Prospective students wishing to enter a career in nursing will require GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths. We are committed to creating educational opportunities for people from a variety of backgrounds and situations. If you have been out of formal education for some time, and/or you do not have the qualifications stated, we might still be able to consider your application and offer you a range of support. We are here to help. Please get in touch to find out more. As part of this programme of study you will be required to have a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You will be required to pay the cost of this. A DBS must be in place before you start your placement. You may be able to supply an existing DBS but this must be within 3 years of issue.
