Economics affects every aspect of business. Whether a firm is considering taking on more staff, adopting a new technology or cutting prices in response to a change government policy, an understanding of economics is central to getting the big calls right. Macroeconomic trends also influence the wider business environment, affecting the cost of borrowing, how well-off consumers feel or the competitiveness of UK goods and services abroad. As a BSc Business Economics student, you will combine a rigorous training in economics with management, corporate law, marketing and finance, equipping you with the skills necessary to successfully navigate business world. A formal understanding of economics is only one dimension of the skills you will develop on our programme. Economics graduates are sought after because the world is a complicated place. You will learn to make evidence-based decisions about which factors are important when framing a decision and which are a distraction. You will also learn how to communicate both the complexity and nuance of your analysis to a range of specialist and non-specialist audiences both verbally and in written form. This programme incorporates a one-year professional placement. Supported by our Placements Team, you will gain real-world workplace experience, seeing first-hand how economics training provides unique, valuable insights to employers and how the skills you are developing equip you for life after university. As BSc Business Economics graduate, you will be highly sought after in many different occupations because of the uniquely diverse skillset you will develop. Cardiff graduates also go on to have successful careers in consultancy, regulation, government, finance, and accountancy. Many more continue their studies at postgraduate level. Fees stated are for the 2024/25 academic year. The University reserves the right to increase tuition fees in the second and subsequent years of a course as permitted by law or Welsh Government policy. Where applicable we will notify you of any change in tuition fee by the end of June in the academic year before the one in which the fee will increase.
Fees for entry in subsequent years are subject to increase and will be confirmed by the end of October in the year preceding your start date of your programme.
Tuition fees cover all reasonable costs required for you to complete to the degree programme stated. Please note that you may choose to participate in study trips, associated placements or purchase equipment while studying on your degree programme which will be at your own cost.
