About the course Turn your love of sport, rehabilitation, and physical activity into a fulfilling career with our BSc (Hons) Sport Science and Performance Therapy . During this course, you will study the physiological, biomechanical, and psychological influences on human performance during the preparation for, rehabilitation of, and participation in, sport and exercise. This course starts each September and is awarded by the University of Surrey. Course highlights:

  • This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to enter a variety of rewarding careers in sport, sport science and clinical settings.
  • Gain embedded vocational qualifications, including Level 2 Gym Instruction, Level 3 Personal Training, Level 4Strength and Conditioning (CIMSPA), Level 3 Sports Massage and Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage (STA).
  • Taught in our modern facilities and study spaces at Farnborough
  • Previous guest visits have included Adam Bishop, Worlds Strongest Man Athlete and Britain’s Strongest Man2020/2023, Paul Stretch, the Lead Physical Preparation Coach for GB and England Senior men’s Hockey team, Steve Bedford, Sports Therapist for Brentford FC and Wimbledon Tennis Club, and Matt Jaggard, Head of Strength and Conditioning for Delgado & Lee Pro Tennis Academy.
Why study this course with us? At Farnborough, you will study the fundamentals of sport science including anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and nutrition which will give you an in-depth understanding of how the human body works and operates within an elite sporting context. You will apply this knowledge to the impacts it has on athletes’ performance, preparation and recovery, with units such as Sports Injury, Applied Training Techniques and Functional Rehabilitation . One of the added benefits of this programme is the opportunity to gain extra qualifications as well as your degree, including CIMSPA and Sports Therapy Association (STA) qualifications. Our lecturing team come from various backgrounds in sport including sport psychology, sports therapists, and strength and conditioning coaching. You will be able to use their combined experience to give you a great introduction into the industry. You will also have access to our professional equipment including functional movement screening, physiology testing, taping and strapping, and a rehabilitation gym. Who is this programme for? This degree is for those with a passion to study sport and further your skills ready to enter the popular sporting industry. You might be currently studying a Level 3, A Level or Access to Higher Education course or be returning to education after a break or wish to transfer from another higher education institution. It may also be possible for you to join this course in its second or third year following relevant qualifications and/or experience in the workplace. What will I study? Within Level 4 of this degree will introduce you to practical skills, such as physical training techniques, sports massage, and functional movement, while focusing on the theory behind human anatomy and physiology. In Level 5 you will explore diagnostics and injury management, advanced sports massage techniques and training methods. At level 6 the modules are designed to allow students to extend their knowledge and the skills required in industry with more independent study allowing freedom to investigate a chosen specific role. This allows learners to demonstrate or identify means of further developing skills which are key to securing employment. How will I be taught? This programme will be taught in a variety of ways, this includes practical lecturers, seminars and group work. Taught in our modern facilities and study spaces at Farnborough.
