You will develop your design identity, gaining the confidence to move forward as a graphic designer or illustrator. Whether your love is of traditional elements such as typography, drawing techniques and visual communication, or more contemporary digital processes such as working with motion graphics and AR, you will focus on your specialism. You will understand how to contextualise your practice and find your place within a dynamic industry. You will be continuously practicing and presenting your work in real-life situations, reflective of the breadth of possibilities for working as a professional designer. Utilise our industry links as well as forging your own as you launch your career. In addition to applying creative thinking to your work, you will confidently and professionally operate, manage and construct artwork via digital means. Tailor your skills and knowledge towards your career goals while learning from industry professionals. You will work in conjunction with other designers and artists to generate and grow a captive audience, in turn nurturing your creative ability. Graphic designers and illustrators must now be equipped with specialist industry-focused skills to compete in the global studio and function within the creative industry.

There is an emphasis towards practical workshop learning, which underpins both context and industry relevant topics. The lecture programme will impart the necessary principles and concepts for the dissertation module. Group work will allow you to develop your research, communication and teamwork skills. The seminars will be a mixture of student-led and tutor-led sessions, considering practical examples of the principles and concepts. Tutor and peer led reflective feedback form the basis of student learning programmes.

Leeds City College and it's various centres welcome students from across the EU and international students who are already residing in the UK. The College is not currently recruiting students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) whose immigration permission is for education only.
A typical offer is likely to be a pass at foundation degree or a relevant HND, together with five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English (maths isn’t required). In the absence of formal learning qualifications, applications are welcomed from people who can demonstrate relevant work experience, including work in a voluntary capacity. Speakers of other languages need to have an IELTS score of at least 6.0 or a recognised Level 2 English qualification. International qualifications will be assessed against the above criteria. The course structure actively supports claims for Accreditation of Prior Certified Learning (APCL) and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). We welcome applications from mature candidates who may not have met the academic criteria, but can demonstrate a wealth of experience in their chosen field. Candidates in this category and otherwise, are likely to be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application. All students should be able to demonstrate, either by qualifications or testing, that they have the required literacy skills to complete the course. Additionally, students are to present a portfolio and supporting academic text. This is undertaken during an interview or correspondence for distance applicants. The course can be offered on a part-time basis if required.
