Course summary
Data analytics is central to the fashion industry, and effective analysis affects and benefits every area of a business. Data analysts create and analyse data that allows businesses to optimise their performance, meet customer demands, develop creative solutions to business challenges and focus on growth. Our three-year BSc (Hons) Data Analytics for Retail undergraduate degree will teach you the essential data skills and knowledge you need to make a difference in the industry. You'll explore the four key categories of analytics (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive analytics and prescriptive), and discover how analytics can be used in trend forecasting, sustainability, buying and more. This course has been created in collaboration with industry to give students the most up-to-date knowledge and skills, and there is a huge demand and excellent opportunity for progression in all fashion retail industry sectors for those that are confident with data gathering and analysis. Through lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops and projects, you’ll develop the essential technical knowledge and analytical and communication skills needed to succeed as a fashion-focused data analyst. You will:

- Be assigned a personal industry mentor to work with throughout the course
- Learn about data gathering, management, legislation, and ethical practice

- Complete a self-directed Personal Professional Project that allows you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge
Modules
Throughout the course you’ll develop the technical, analytical and creative skills needed for a career in data analytics. You’ll learn through a mix of classes and lectures, individual study, creative projects and industry enrichment that is integrated throughout the course in the form of masterclasses, live projects, mentorship schemes and work placements. Year One In your first year of study, you’ll look at the role of an analyst and the breadth of application across the fashion industry. You will learn the fundamentals of data, analytics, explore the ethics and regulations related to use of data. Learn how analysts work with the creative and production processes. You’ll also explore how analytics can be used for trend forecasting, buying, consumer targeting and other sectors of industry, as well as learn how to use the software required by industry. Learn how to interpret trends and analyse your findings to highlight new opportunities for businesses. Modules:

Assessment method
This course is assessed through coursework and exams. The assessment tools include, but aren’t limited to, professionally relevant projects, essays and presentations. You will complete work placements as part of the course. 20 credit modules: total study time 200 hours, taught: 50 hours 40 credit modules: total study time 400 hours, taught: 100 hours *This course is subject to validation.
