Creative Media Production - Games Art and Development

Course summary

This course is aimed at people who work or who wish to work in the games industry. Units focus on the creative art and level design elements that are considered fundamental to the games development. When undertaking practical assessments, you are expected to perform to an industry standards and use your own initiative to research required topics. The programme is designed to prepare you for employment in the exciting world of games development and related industries such as visual effects. You will also undertake many industry related enrichment visits such as developer conferences to enhance your learning experience.

Modules

Specialist units will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in games art application and in the creation of your own professional portfolio. They include: • Individual Project (Pearson Set); • Creative Media Industry; • Professional Practice; • Game Development Practises (Game Build 1); • Games in Context (Game Theory); • Game Design (Game Build 2); • Concept Art Development; • 3D Modelling for Games (Asset Creation); and • Field Trips and Networking Expo's. There is also the opportunity for suitable students to undertake a range of live briefs, competitions and work experience with a local games company This is an exciting opportunity to enhance your portfolio and gain creative experience in the development of commercial games and to develop content for VR, Unity, Unreal Engine 4 and the creation of high quality game ready assets.

Assessment method

This is a full-time course over one year. A range of assessment methods including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, course work and live briefs.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

GCSE English Language and mathematics at Grade C/4 or above are required. Functional skills level 2 will also be accepted. Other qualifications that will be considered for entrance include an NVQ level 3, a VRQ level 3 and a UAL Extended Diploma. Mature students are welcome to apply, with no formal qualification, as long as they have a minimum of three years relevant industry experience.
