Advance your skills in the creation, production and performance of high-quality electronic music in this industry-focused masters degree in Electronic Music Production. This groundbreaking course will propel you beyond technical mastery, and into shaping a thriving career in the music industry. Experiment with live electronic performance technologies, develop your own performance tools, synthesisers and signal processors, and refine your skills in processing, sampling, mixing and mastering. You will explore new ways of delivering your music, incorporating the latest computer-based performance technologies and gain in-depth technical knowledge combined with creative and critical thinking that will give you the freedom to define your artistic aesthetic whilst studying within a diverse community of electronic sound designers, composers, producers and performers. To prepare you for a career in the music industry, you will focus on current revenue streams and contemporary developments in this area, along with idea generation, workflow and project management skills, which will enable you to be productive with your skills. Modules
You will study a total of 5 modules, including a final major project. Over the course of the five modules, you’ll refine your craft as an electronic music producer, become adept in the use of multiple industry-standard DAWs, generate a passive income through conceptualisation and development of a product, deepen your understanding of setting up your own business and deliver a final major project. Modules: Advanced Electronic Music Production This module will challenge you to create boundary-pushing music that leads the way for others to follow. You’ll cover advanced concepts and professional strategies that enhance workflow and increase output, ensuring you can respond to the varied and ever-increasing demands of producing music to a commercial standard. You will develop key mastering skills for professional releases, further your understanding of record contracts and the vital role these play for artists and producers, and ultimately, become a reflective practitioner who is able to fine-tune your processes to continually improve your skills and methods. Production Platforms Master a range of industry-standard DAW platforms and greatly enhance your employability options. You will become proficient across a range of software applications such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro and Pro Tools, enabling you to create a highly professional set of skills. This will make you flexible and attractive to a wider client base and set you up to collaborate with a diverse range of creative professionals in the future. Product Design & Delivery In this module, you will create a substantial product, or suite of products, that can generate a passive income, ensuring you are able to monetise your creative talents effectively. You will conceptualise, design and develop your own Max4Live devices or Kontakt instruments, whilst also working on branding, marketing and commercial opportunities for these products. Electronic Music Enterprise Develop a deep understanding of the factors involved in setting up your own professional enterprise. You will create professional planning materials, effective marketing strategies and bespoke tools that lead you into the industry with confidence and ensure longevity, growth and success in your endeavours. With these skills, you will become a master of running your own career, capable of capitalising on emerging industry opportunities. You will also create a professional release pack to support the commercial release of original music. Project Realisation This module is an opportunity to choose a focus area within a relevant discipline and design and implement a specialist project based on this. Your tuition will focus on postgraduate research skills and project management as you negotiate a project proposal, develop an effective framework and present final, real-world results, with consideration for a commercial arena.
