Course summary

"This programme enables you to take your first steps towards a range of exciting careers in Business and Commercial Law, combined with the opportunity to spend a year studying abroad and travel as part of your degree. You will gain a comprehensive grounding in the core areas covered by a Law degree: Contract Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Equity and Trusts, Law of Tort and Public Law. As your studies progress, you can choose from a wide range of subject areas with a business focus including: Trade Law, Media Law, Commercial Sales, Competition Law, and Employment Law. The third year of this programme is spent studying abroad at one of a range of international institutions available, allowing you to broaden your horizons and pick up new life experiences and skills that can help to give you a competitive advantage when entering the world of work. All our Law programmes contain the foundations of legal knowledge needed to enter the legal profession. Our programmes provide a strong foundation for those who wish to go on to take the Solicitors Qualifying Exams (SQE) and they also satisfy the academic stage of training required by the Bar Standards Board for those looking to become Barristers. The School of Law provides you with exceptional student experience, excellent employability support, and a progressive curriculum. Spaces are limited and subject to a competitive selection process. In the event you do not secure a semester/year abroad placement, you will be transferred to the standard variant of your degree scheme without a semester or year abroad. You will need to meet a minimum academic threshold in order to participate in a semester or year abroad programme. Available destinations may be limited by external factors, such as travel restrictions and capacity at partner universities. Associated costs of the semester/year abroad (such as travel, visas, host university charges and cost of living abroad in the host country) will vary. Funding may be available."

Modules

"Your first year of study is made up of compulsory modules covering a range of themes. Compulsory modules are studied by all students on the programme, meaning you are automatically enrolled. Examples of compulsory modules include: • Public Law • Law of Tort • Contract Law • Legal System and Skills In your second year you will study a mixture of compulsory and optional modules. Your third year will be spent studying abroad at one of our partner institutions. Your fourth year will comprise totally of optional modules from a wide range of subject areas, with over thirty options to choose from. Examples of optional modules in recent years have included: • Commercial Sales • Employment Law: Rights and Obligations • Media Law • Intellectual Property Law • World Trade Law"

"We offer a variety of assessment methods within our programmes. In addition to traditional examinations and essays, examples of alternative assessment may include: • Writing a letter of advice to a client • Blog and poster writing • Group-based tasks Throughout your undergraduate law degree, you will develop excellent research and analytical skills and learn to present your ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.
