Course summary

The Honours Degree in Horticulture is validated by Ulster University. The course provides the ideal opportunity for those who have completed the Foundation Degree in Horticulture at CAFRE to apply to study at Honours Degree level. The course is designed to provide graduates for the horticulture industry, who are capable of operating at a managerial level, or would have the capability to develop owner-operated businesses in chosen sub-sectors. In addition, it provides graduates the opportunity for further study in relevant post-graduate studies.

Modules

Following successful completion of the Foundation Degree in Horticulture students must complete and pass the Bridging Studies modules before they can commence the BSc (Hons) Degree course modules. Bridging Studies modules: • Research skills and data management • Sustainable horticulture BSc (Hons) Degree modules: • Applied plant studies • Improving productivity in horticulture • Marketing and supply chain development • Professional management • Dissertation

Qualification requirements

Students who pass the Foundation Degree in Horticulture programme at CAFRE Greenmount Campus with an aggregate pass mark of at least 50% will be eligible to progress on to the two 20-credit bridging modules. Level 5 Bridging Studies modules will be completed June-August and will be delivered by blended learning onsite and online. Upon successful completion of Bridging studies students can then progress into level 6 of the BSc (Hons) Horticulture at CAFRE Greenmount. Career destinations: A wide range of exciting careers are open to horticulture graduates within the production, landscape, sports turf, retail, environmental and social horticulture sectors with the additional option of self-employment. Progression opportunities: Students may have the opportunity to apply to study on Master’s level courses
