Course summary

Financial Technology (FinTech) combines the theory and knowledge behind capital markets with the technology that makes financial transactions more efficient. This course teaches the big data techniques, computer programming, and analytics that banks and insurance companies are looking for. This is a Masters degree that future-proofs graduates and students from a variety of backgrounds and are looking for a career in this area. Graduates will have a good understanding of the fact that finance is changing, and accounting, business information systems, and analytic methods are adapting to the internet as a delivery channel. The programme is jointly provided by the departments of Accounting & Finance and Management Science with input from Computer & Information Science.

Assessment method

Class assessments will take the form of a class test and/or assignment for most classes. Each class will be examined at the end of the semester they are offered.


Entry requirements

Second-class Honours degree or non-UK equivalent qualification in accounting, economics, business studies or a subject with a strong quantitative component. No prior knowledge of finance is required.
