Course summary

This qualification has been designed in partnership with the University of Chichester in response to feedback from industry who are looking for a workforce, which has an understanding and skills of the whole process of furniture production and project planning from design to production planning and final production, including an understanding of the processes involved in furniture making. The qualification will give you the opportunity to develop your skills in three key areas of furniture production: • Advanced Craft Skills • Furniture Design for Production • Production Planning Skills You will be developing your design skills to produce high quality prototypes, which are suitable for production in small batches. You will also be exploring how the furniture industry organises production by developing production plans considering all aspect of production and putting your plans to the test by batch producing items of furniture. As part of this, the program will help you develop the skills for you to be able to reflect on your own performance and consider ways of improving production. To help you with the above you will also be developing CAD skills. Small student focused learning through applying theory to practice in combined lectures and workshops: • Strong emphasis on your personal development within a supportive environment to improve your readiness for the workplace • Implementing a project approach where you will have to opportunity to design real projects, plan the production and produce the items then reflect on the process and develop improvements in production.
