Course summary

This professionally accredited MChem degree includes a year of advanced study at Master's level and a year studying abroad in North America, Europe or Asia. It equips you with a thorough understanding of all the main areas of chemistry, alongside in-depth knowledge of those aspects of chemistry that are important to the pharmaceutical industry. In your third year you have the opportunity to study chemistry at one of our partner universities overseas. You'll then return to Newcastle for your fourth year, taking advanced modules that can prepare you for a career in research, such as:

  • advanced methods in drug discovery
  • organic synthesis for drug targets
  • further organic and inorganic chemistry
Supported by our research-active staff, you also conduct an extended research project in an area of chemistry of your choice, contributing to knowledge at the cutting edge of the field.
