Our MA programme is designed to fulfil your quest for knowledge, by taking your study of history to a deeper level. Our History MA offers you the opportunity to pursue your chosen period or research specialism through one of its three pathways:
- Medieval and Early Modern
- Modern
- Heritage
Modules
Core modules: Researching and writing history; dissertation. Optional modules may include: Palaeography: using medieval and early modern sources; introduction to Latin translation for historians; belief and unbelief: gods and pagans from antiquity to today; creative voices: history and fiction; historical research project; outreach, heritage and public history placement; beyond the text: image, sound and object as historical evidence; using digital texts as historical sources; school placement.
Assessment method
Assessment is by coursework and a dissertation.
Entry requirements
2:1 Hons degree (UK or equivalent) in History, a related combined major or a degree in other related humanities disciplines. We may also consider non-standard applicants, please contact us for information. We may ask you to provide a recognised English language qualification, dependent upon your nationality and where you have studied previously. We normally require an IELTS (Academic) Test with an overall score of at least 6.5, and a minimum of 5.5 in each element of the test. We also consider other English language qualifications.
