Course overview

  • Our MA in Fashion and Lifestyle Promotion looks at the links between fashion organisations and their consumers, stakeholders, and the wider fashion environment, and focuses on the creative essence of the fashion industry. This course is an ideal choice if your career goal is to work for a high-street/ online fashion, luxury or lifestyle brand.
  • The course will develop your intellectual and imaginative power through a programme of study that is formed from cohesion between theory and practice.
  • Within a stimulating environment you’ll exchange ideas supported through factual creative research, developed and contextualised. You’ll develop new connections within the field of fashion that challenge traditional design boundaries.
  • You will explore and use different research methods to investigate the branding and promotion of fashion through marketing, advertising, events management, PR, trend prediction, brand identity and media.

Further information You’ll be taught in the Victoria Building - a modern, bright building with purpose-built studios and workshops, including photographic studios, audio visual and computer imaging facilities. It is close to the library, computer facilities, student union, cafés, bars, refectory, and the centre of Preston is only a five-minute walk away. The University's Library has a well-resourced Art and Design section and a specialist librarian. The MA studio provides a range of facilities and work space.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to have completed an undergraduate programme or first degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Fashion and Brand Promotion, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Fashion Merchandising, Photography, Design), with a 2:2 classification (or the equivalent of a UK GPA of 60 per cent). All applicants need to prepare a comprehensive study plan proposal which should evidence interest, dedication or experience within the subject of lifestyle and fashion. Exceptionally an applicant who does not meet the above academic criteria but who has considerable appropriate work experience will be considered. Anyone wishing to apply without the above criteria will be welcome to make an enquiry through the MA co-ordinator. The application form must be accompanied by: Evidence of your creative ability; A comprehensive study plan proposal; IELTS 6.5 or equivalent for applicants whose first language is not English.
