This exciting new course provides an opportunity for those who have already undertaken a health related degree to undertake paramedic education. Paramedics are an integral and ever evolving part of the NHS workforce and work as autonomous practitioners, able to conduct complex examinations and undertake diagnostic management procedures. Paramedics work in a multitude of environments, providing urgent and emergency care to patients across the lifespan.
- This two-year programme is the first of its kind in the North of England and was developed in conjunction with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
- It provides strong post course employability as a Newly Qualified Paramedic (NQP).
- The course provides a wealth of practice placement opportunities in both ambulance and non-ambulance settings.
- This pre-registration course enables you to commence study at Masters level, the first of its kind within the North of England to offer this paramedic course
Modules
Year 1 Core modules: Foundations of Paramedic Practice Contemporary Concepts in Paramedic Practice Paramedic Practice 1 Assessment and Care of the Acute and Critically Ill Year 2 Core modules: Paramedic Practice 2 Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care Practice Care of Special Circumstance and Vulnerable Groups Clinical ECG’s in Paramedic Practice Reading and interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs) in a fundamental skillset for paramedics. This module will develop your knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology and develop the skills of ECG interpretation and diagnosis. This module will challenge you to develop your existing knowledge of physiological changes and explore a multitude of pathologies where the application of ECG principles are important. You will be provided with the opportunity to apply these principles to a variety of clinical presentations from paramedic practice and implement the necessary clinical management whilst undertaking scenario-based activities. This course is subject to revalidation.
Assessment method
Assessment is a combination of coursework, practice/competency based learning and examination including case-studies, presentations, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and practical scenarios. The nature of the assessment varies from module to module, and mirrors the modes of communication expected of graduates in this field report writing, critique, case presentation and oral presentation of clinical findings. Assessment is based upon work- based situations through case studies to facilitate reflection and testing skills of critical analysis.

Entry requirements
Entry requirements for this course are normally: * An Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant human or health related subject * Provide a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and health clearances. We will request an Overseas Police Check if you have lived in a country outside of the UK for 6 months or more (whether continuously or in total) in the last 10 years before applying to us and whilst aged 18 or over * A conditional offer will be made upon completion of an APEL portfolio * GCSE Maths at grade 4 or above, or grade C or above if awarded under the previous GCSE grading scheme, or equivalent Ofqual regulated qualification * Relevant prior experience in a health environment * Potential to study at master’s level * Evidence of recent study (within 5 years) Offers will be subject to an interview. Please note all the information provided in support of your application may be checked and must be verifiable as a true record. Placement providers for this course may require you to have received a number of vaccinations, unless medically exempt, and provide evidence of these. As a student on a course with a clinical or healthcare placement, we strongly recommend that you complete any courses of vaccinations required under current guidelines for your future profession. Failure to do so may result in your inability to undertake a placement in certain clinical settings, therefore impacting upon your academic progression, and may result in academic failure of your course.
English language requirements
If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, or equivalent.
