Find out more about the TEF.

The University of Chichester Conservatoire has one of the largest and liveliest music departments in the UK with a community of over 400 student performers. Our facilities include computerised recording and media studios, well equipped practice rooms and an acoustically superb performance venue. The degree offers you a combination of a focus on developing your practical skills in either vocal or instrumental performance with screen acting development and offers an opportunity to position yourself with a very strong offer for future performance work. You’ll acquire a broader knowledge of other aspects of film and screen acting and its history, and develop skill and understanding of musical performance and of how these both contribute to and reflect broader cultural trends. You’ll acquire a toolkit of vocational knowledge in work based modules designed to help you to work in a variety of roles, and to develop real understanding of the challenges of work in a professional environment.

Additional entry requirements

Audition

Prior to attending your interview, all applicants should prepare one short monologue (between 1 and 1 ½ minutes long) which will be used in an intense camera workshop. You should have the speeches thoroughly learnt and be off the book.

There will also be an unrehearsed aspect to the audition, where candidates will be given a page of duologue from a film script to read with the assessor.

You will also need to prepare a short piece of Music (about 3 minutes in length) so the tutor can hear you individually performing. If your piece has an accompaniment part, please bring this along so that our pianists can play alongside you (please don’t bring photocopies unless you have written permissions for these from the copyright holder). Alternatively, if you do not play an instrument or sing but compose music, please bring an example(s) of your works on CD.

Acting, singing or playing in front of an audience is something that makes everyone feel a little anxious, so choose pieces that you feel shows you at your best and represents a style you feel comfortable with.

It will be a relaxed and friendly interview; we try to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. We want you to be relaxed since this is when we are most likely to see the ‘real you’. It is also an opportunity for us to find out about why you might want to study here at Chichester, what you have done so far in your studies before university and your opinions about Acting and Music more generally. Be prepared, but don’t panic!

English language requirements

Test Grade Additional details
IELTS (Academic) 6.0
PTE Academic 50.0

The standard entry requirement for this programme is IELTS 6.0 with no element lower than 5.5. However, you can begin your 3-year degree programme with IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.

Further details of our international entry requirements can be found on our website.
