Course summary

This degree programme studies cinema and television as major forces of enjoyment and knowledge within modern culture. Latin involves the study of the Latin language and literature, as well as the history and culture of the Romans. Why study this course at the University of Glasgow? The lecturers in Film & Television Studies at Glasgow are leading researchers in their field, and they bring this expertise into their teaching. We have strong connections with Glasgow’s creative and cultural organisations, representatives of which contribute to our programme (eg talks from policymakers and screen practitioners on our core course Media & Cultural Policy). You will have the opportunity to visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy as part of your programme. If you progress to Honours you will have the opportunity to spend up to three weeks (usually during the summer vacation after year 3) visiting archaeological sites and museums in Italy or another part of the ancient world. Career Prospects? This programme is a valuable preparation for careers in various aspects of the media, arts and cultural industries as well as for non-media-related careers (eg teaching, public relations). Immediate job destinations for recent graduates include production coordinator for BBC Studios, PR assistant for a creative communications agency and diversity standards’ analyst for the British Film Institute. Older graduates have gone on to establish successful careers as TV producers, arts administrators, educators and leaders within non-profit organisations. As a Latin graduate you will be able to enter many different careers, from the heritage/cultural sector and teaching to consultancy and financial services. Latin/Classics graduates also follow careers in fields such as publishing, law or accountancy; many decide to stay in academia and pursue postgraduate degrees. Our recent graduates have been employed as: experts in museums and galleries librarians or archivists teachers civil servants in IT/software development.
