University Centre Grimsby has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
This programme is focussed on practice for aspiring counsellors. It prepares students for the challenges of working in this vital and frequently fluid area within both the public and private sector, equipping all students with the knowledge, skills, understanding and ethical instincts to work as informed, confident and responsible professionals. The programme will offer students sound knowledge and skills which they can apply to practice during the practical element, where students complete 100 placement hours as a 1-1 counsellor. A further requirement is that the student will participate in ten hours of personal therapy and 1.5 hours supervision per 8 client hours.
Modules studies during this programme are placement and supervision groups; personal development; psychology within counselling; child and adolescent counselling and dissertation.
Assessment methods will include 100 hours placement; reflective and academic essays; case study; report; oral presentation; poster presentation; audio recording and transcript; portfolio and dissertation.

Applicants must have achieved 240 credits in a Foundation Degree in Counselling Studies. Students must also have a Level 5 grade average at 50% or above.
