The BA (Hons) Performance Arts (Top-Up) allows students to extend their skills and knowledge from a Foundation Degree or HND to honours level study. It provides an opportunity to engage in the process of creating, performing and realising performance products according to their specialist interest. Two performance modules lie at the heart of the course which allow students to choose from a range of specialist performance disciplines such as acting, directing, dance or choreography and community theatre. Although the focus of the programme is aimed at those who aspire to work in the performing arts industry it has, over the years, produced a lot of graduates who want to work as drama or dance teachers and some now have leadership posts. To that end we have introduced an alternative option to one of the performance modules which will allow aspiring teachers to gain experience of teaching in this specialist area.

The course also focuses on employability in the industry and clear links are forged between development of high level performance skills and the personal development of the individual in terms of their career aspirations through the Personal Development and Planning module. Students are encouraged to make links and build relationships with relevant industry professionals as well as developing their own strategies for getting employment. Modules are taught by current industry professionals.

Luke Beevers, BA Performance Arts Top Up student said "I like that we get a lot of feedback and lots of contact with the tutors." Suzanne Jackson, a fellow BA Performance Arts Top Up, stated that she "enjoyed the freedom in choosing projects for your modules. Cheryl Callaghan, another of the BA Performance Arts Top Up students said "the tutors are friendly and you can go to them with any problems and speak to them."
