Assessment method

As well as lectures, your course will involve regular group meetings, run by both staff and other students, where students’ work is discussed. You will gain experience in presenting mathematical arguments to fellow students, which will enhance and develop your presentation and communication skills.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) DDM plus A-Level Mathematics at grade A.
Access to HE Diploma Access courses considered require a minimum of 45 credits at level 3, 30 of which must be at Distinction. Plus Mathematics A-Level grade A.
Scottish Higher Accepted in combination with other qualifications.
AS AA 2 AS Levels accepted in place of 1 A-Level, accepted in combination with other qualifications, including Mathematics A-Level grade A.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal D3, D3, M2 including D3 in Mathematics.
Extended Project ACC with an A in Mathematics plus grade B in EPQ.
GCSE/National 4/National 5 If you plan to spend a Year Abroad you will need grade C/4 in GCSE French, German or Italian.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 30 points with a minimum of 16 points at HL, including 6 points in HL Mathematics. Maths Studies not accepted.
Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) H1, H1, H2, H2, H2 including H1 in Mathematics.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) DM Accepted when taking A-Level Mathematics, grade A required.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate (first teaching from September 2016) D accepted in combination with other qualifications, including Mathematics A-Level grade A.
Scottish Advanced Higher AAB including grade A in Mathematics.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (first teaching September 2015) ABB from two A-Levels including Mathematics at grade A and the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate.

When considering your application, we will look for evidence that you will be able to fulfil the objectives of the programme of study and achieve the standards required. We will take into account a range of factors including previous examination results.


English language requirements

IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.

Additional fee information

The tuition fee for home and EU students is reviewed annually and for the academic year 2019/20 it is £9,250. The fees for following years have not yet been decided but are likely to increase each year in line with inflation, subject to government regulations. The inflation rate used will be RPIX, which includes all the items in the Retail Price Index, excluding mortgage payments. For your information, the inflation rate used by the Government when increasing the tuition fee from £9,000 to £9,250 was 2.8%.
